British Values

As a Church of England School we seek to promote the Christian values of collective and individual care and responsibility. The school’s ethos is expressed in its instrument of government. The school aims to serve its community within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils. A holistic approach is taken towards the education of each child in order to develop academic, physical, social, aesthetic, spiritual and moral understanding through experiences offered in the planned, explicit and hidden curriculum. We promote the British Values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance in all aspects of school life.

At Bishop Wood we teach children mutual respect for those with different faiths and beliefs and those with no faith

From Aims & Ethos Statement: We aim to encourage children to respect the rights of others irrespective of gender, race, ability, religion or social background.

  • On our Religious Education page see information about the RE curriculum, our Christian values and mutual faith approach.

  • During the school year we celebrate Christian festivals:

  • We commemorate signaficant dates in the national calendar such as Remembrance Day, Royal events and celebrations.

  • At Bishop Wood we provide pastoral care to families and operate an Open Door policy. Anyone can access help and advice from our Family Liason Officer.

  • We have stong Community Links and take part in events in the town from the annual Tring Carnival to carol singing at the local care home. Children regularly take part in services at St Peter & St Paul's Church and in 2015 played an active part in the Tring Charter 700 Celebrations.

  • Each year children in years 4 and 6 have the opportunity to go on as residential study tour. Find out about these on our Trips Page
