Physical Education

At Bishop Wood School, our intent is to provide a high-quality, inclusive and progressive Physical Education curriculum for pupils in Years 3-6 using the 'Get Set 4 PE' scheme. Our curriculum reflects our school vision, “To be the best version of ourselves, enjoying life in all its fullness,” by encouraging all pupils to develop confidence, resilience and a positive attitude towards physical activity and healthy living.
Through a broad and balanced range of activities, pupils of all backgrounds and abilities develop their physical skills, fitness and mental wellbeing while building confidence and self-belief. Carefully sequenced lessons enable pupils to progressively develop and refine their skills, providing opportunities to challenge themselves, work collaboratively and experience both competitive and cooperative activities.
As a member of the DSSN (Dacorum School Sports Network), pupils benefit from a wide range of additional sporting opportunities. Through this local school partnership, they are able to participate in competitions, festivals and sporting events throughout the year, allowing them to apply their skills in a supportive yet competitive environment while proudly representing their school.
Our PE curriculum also reflects our Christian ethos by promoting values such as respect, honesty, perseverance, humility and encouragement of others. Pupils learn to celebrate each other’s achievements, show compassion and fairness in sport and demonstrate positive sportsmanship. In doing so, they develop not only as physically active individuals but also as responsible and supportive members of the school community.
In addition to all of this, we also aim for all pupils to leave Bishop Wood School able to swim at least 25 metres by the end of Key Stage 2, equipping them with an essential life skill and supporting their confidence in the water.
