Bishop Wood Junior School – Curriculum Statement of Intent
Our curriculum is underpinned by our core values of wisdom, dignity, hope and community.
At Bishop Wood Junior School, the curriculum is designed to build upon children’s prior learning, provide learning experiences that allow the children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers.
Every child is recognised as a unique individual. We celebrate and welcome differences within our school community, and teach the children about how communities outside Tring may live differently to them, at the same time aiming to foster a tolerance and understanding of difference.
The ability to learn is underpinned by the teaching of skills, knowledge, concepts and values with a vision to prepare them for life beyond junior school. We constantly provide enrichment opportunities to engage learning. We believe that childhood should be a happy, investigative and enquiring time in our lives, where there are no limits to curiosity and there is a thirst for new experiences and knowledge. We use our core values to promote positive attitudes to learning which reflect the values and skills needed to promote responsibility for learning and future success.
We strive to make sure that children leave Bishop Wood with a sense of belonging to a community where they have the confidence and skills to make good decisions, be reflective, make links within and between subjects, and become lifelong learners.
