At Bishop Wood Church of England Junior School, we take an evidence-based approach to homework, focusing on meaningful, skill-building activities that support your child’s learning journey. Research shows that traditional, repetitive homework tasks offer limited benefits at the primary level. Instead, we emphasise engaging tasks that encourage curiosity, creativity, and understanding.
Our homework offer includes:
- Weekly Open-Ended Questions: These are designed to deepen understanding of class topics in a fun, reflective way, taking no more than 30 minutes to complete.
- Half-Termly Projects: These encourage children to explore topics creatively and present their knowledge in unique ways.
Each assignment is crafted to align with classroom learning, fostering skills like responsibility and time management without overwhelming students. For more details on our homework approach, please refer to the attached guidelines.
