Computing – Statement of Intent
At Bishop Wood School, we provide a Computing curriculum designed to prepare our learners for their future by giving them the opportunities to gain knowledge and wisdom to develop skills that will prepare them for an ever-changing digital world. We equip pupils with skills, strategies and knowledge that will enable them to reap the benefits of the online world, whilst being able to make wise choices to minimise risk to themselves or others. We teach pupils to become responsible, respectful and competent users of data, information and communication technology. Our computing curriculum focuses on progression skills in computer science, information technology, digital literacy and online safety to ensure that children develop creativity, resilience, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. We understand the immense value technology plays not only in supporting the whole school curriculum but overall in the day-to-day life of the school, local, national and global communities. Technology supports learning across the entire curriculum and by making the computing curriculum accessible for all, we are giving pupils dignity as they can work at their own pace and level. We are hoping that our computing curriculum will provide a grounding for our pupils to take their place in a digital society.
